Saved from demolition and relocated by Gordon and Beverly Smith in 2007, the Davis home now stands near the corner of E Davie and S Bloodworth streets, part of a vibrant row of coordinated houses. In 2021, Steel Projects undertook a months-long renovation to update the home for its next chapter. Fittingly named for a former resident with the color choice coinciding with Hubert Davis’s hiring as UNC’s basketball coach, it sits amongst a row of fully-renovated and colorfully coordinated properties perched along Bloodworth Street.
The Davis renovation included a new open layout, a new roof, new HVAC, white oak floors, custom cabinets, granite countertops, fresh paint inside & out, new energy-efficient fixtures & appliances, luxury shower, and bespoke landscaping by MC Nicolay. As always, historic features were enhanced and preserved in keeping with the diverse and vibrant character of the neighborhood.
In 2024, Steel Projects received a Sir Walter Raleigh Award for Community Appearance from the City of Raleigh for The Wood & Steel Pile Block. The four homes that comprise this block were selected for the Residential category, which recognizes improvement made to existing residential areas and enhancement of the surrounding community.
